Access to the Library's Resources During Closure

The library will be closed per the Governor's Stay-At-Home order. Library staff are checking email to answer questions and help you to access our resources remotely.

Due to the State of Emergency declared by Governor Sununu regarding the State's response to the outbreak of Coronavirus, the Lane Memorial Library is closed to the public for the health and safety of our patrons and staff.

Statement from the Board of Trustees

The Lane Memorial Library will remain closed to the public, effective 3/19/20, until the current State of Emergency enacted by the Governor of New Hampshire has been lifted, or this action is rescinded by a majority vote of the Board. Closure of the library is meant to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 within our community. This decision follows the state’s closure of all schools and reduced services at bars and restaurants.  Additionally, guidelines by the American Library Association, NH Library Association, and New England Library Association Executive Board strongly state that all public libraries in New England should close in alignment with the closure of public schools in respective states. ll public and private events, programs, and meetings are cancelled.

This action is taken to protect the Town of Hampton community and was not made without consideration of all factors. The staff at the library looks forward to reopening.

During the closure the library, patrons are urged to take advantage of the free ebooks and audiobooks available digitally through Libby and NH Overdrive. Check out additional digital resources on: http://www.hampton.lib.nh.us/library/ebooks.htm

The staff will be reviewing steps for offering curbside pickup. Materials that are currently checked out will have their due dates extended until we reopen. Additionally, staff will discuss offering live streaming story times, craft programs, book clubs, book talks, and more. Public Services

I’d like to get some books or other library material.

The library is not currently circulating any of our collection. The library will be closed per the Governor's Stay-At-Home order. Library staff are checking email to answer questions and help you to access our resources remotely.

Can I return my books?

Currently all library materials should be kept by patrons. The library’s book drop is closed. Do not leave items in the library foyer or on the front steps. Current studies show that COVID-19 lives on surfaces like plastic and cardboard (that’s a book) up to 72 hours.

My books are due.

All due dates are extended until the library reopens. Patrons may receive a reminder notice. Disregard notices. The staff will temporarily stop sending them in the coming days.

Can I order a new item?
The library is not currently placing orders via patron requests at this time. However, please continue to contact us with titles or names of items, and we will fill out a request card, so that we have a record of your request.

Can I order something from another library?

Currently we are not requesting items from other libraries.

Reference Services

Frequently Asked Questions

When will you open again?

When the state of emergency enacted by the Governor of New Hampshire has been lifted, or this action is rescinded by a majority vote of the Board.

What about the staff?

The staff are working remotely when possible, washing their hands frequently when in the building, and maintaining social distance from their co-workers. All of our staff are drawing their normal wages during this time.

Can I use the library wifi?

Yes, wifi is sometimes accessible from the library parking lot. However, patrons should still follow best practices of social distancing.

All gathering are suspended at the library. Most chose to stop meeting before the library closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience and the loss of social time. We look forward to the day when the Hampton community can gather in the library again.
